Costs

The estimated initial investment ranges from $562,500 to $874,000. This includes a $40,000 initial franchise fee. As with any new venture, it is important to have adequate capital for opening and early operations.

MakiMaki Sushi does not offer direct financing. In some cases, we may refer qualified candidates to outside financing sources.

Yes. Franchise owners pay a 6% royalty fee based on gross sales. Please refer to the Franchise Disclosure Document for full details.

Yes. Franchise owners contribute 1% of gross revenues to the brand marketing fund. Owners are also required to spend at least $1,000 per month on local marketing and a minimum of $5,000 on grand opening marketing.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with restaurant ownership or management experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage a team in a fast-moving environment.

Qualified candidates should generally have:

  • $250,000 in liquid assets
  • $1 million net worth
  • Minimum 690 FICO score

Prior foodservice experience is important. MakiMaki Sushi is best suited for candidates with restaurant management or ownership experience.

The brand is built around clear systems, focused operations, and ongoing support. That said, restaurant experience is important, especially in the early stages of growth.

Timelines & Locations

MakiMaki Sushi began development in 2015 and opened its first location in New York City in 2017.

The initial term is 10 years, with two 5-year successor terms available.

Yes. The MakiMaki Sushi team provides site selection guidance and general criteria for choosing the right location.

MakiMaki Sushi is best suited for busy urban markets and high-traffic areas. The model is especially well aligned with office districts and other locations with strong daytime demand.

Training & Support

Franchise owners receive two weeks of pre-opening training in New York for up to three people. Around opening, franchisor representatives will also spend five days on-site supporting the launch.

Owners also receive access to the Confidential Operations Manual, along with ongoing support in operations, marketing, and day-to-day business needs.
